Mutter
GNOME’s window manager and compositor library: it manages windows and display composition in X11 sessions and serves as the Wayland compositor for GNOME Shell. It handles focus, workspaces, outputs, input and effects, while the shell supplies the surrounding desktop interface. Mutter’s window-management logic was inherited from Metacity and was developed to serve as the display core for GNOME Shell.
